One dimensional simulation of flushing sediment through reservoirs
نویسنده
چکیده مقاله:
Control of sedimentation in reservoirs of dams is considered to be one of the most important issues in exploitation of dams and increasing their useful life. Reservoirs act as traps for sediments and prevent transport of sediments to the river. The deposited sediments will decrease the capacity of the reservoirs so that they cannot be in use any more. Various methods are discussed in this study to remove a part of the deposited sediments, but Flushing is the method, which has been used extensively in many projects all over the world due to the fact that the flow energy is utilized and there is no need to employ an external source of energy. In this study a one-dimensional model is developed in which continuity equation of sediment is solved by the finite difference method using the Cranck-Nickolson method. The developed model is capable to compute the variation of the reservoir bed with time. Also , the accumulated flushed sediment volume and reservoir water volume are calculated at different time steps. The Fotran language used for programming of the model was based on the results obtained from physical models employed by several investigators. And comparisonwas done with HEC-6 Model. The verification of the model was done using data from the natural reservoir of Dashidaira dam in Japan. The results were compared with the actual measurements. A good agrement was observed between them but the Hec-6 doesn’t show a good verification.

متن کاملOne Dimensional Internal Ballistics Simulation of Solid Rocket Motor
An internal ballistics model has been developed for performance prediction of a solid propellant rocket motor. In this model a 1-D unsteady Euler equation with source terms is considered. The flow is assumed as a non-reacting mixture of perfect gases with space and time varying thermo physical properties. The governing equations in the combustion chamber are solved numerically by using the Steg...
متن کاملHydraulics characteristics of tipping sediment flushing gate.
This paper highlights a preliminary study on the potential of a tipping flush gate to be used in an open storm drain to remove sediment. The investigation was carried out by using a plasboard model of the tipping flush gate installed in a rectangular flume. A steady flow experiment was carried out to determine the discharge coefficients and also the outflow relationship of the tipping flush gat...
متن کاملTransport in one-dimensional wires: the role of reservoirs
Using the formalism of Ford-Kac-Mazur we study nonequilibrium transport in fermionic systems connected to general particle and thermal reservoirs. Several exact results on electrical and thermal transport in one-dimensional disordered non-interacting fermionic wires are obtained. Landauer’s formula is shown to follow for a special choice of reservoirs. For general reservoirs the currents in the...
متن کاملSimulation of Reservoir Sediment Flushing of the Three Gorges Reservoir Using an Artificial Neural Network
Reservoir sedimentation and its effect on the environment are the most serious world-wide problems in water resources development and utilization today. As one of the largest water conservancy projects, the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR) has been controversial since its demonstration period, and sedimentation is the major concern. Due to the complex physical mechanisms of water and sediment trans...
